Special Effects

What gives a movie its final cherry on top is the special effects. The series contains incredibly realistic sound effects throughout the series which makes one feel as though he/she is actually there. Along with the sound effects, are the scenes which really gravitate the audience into the film. From scenes of someone aging into a zombie in seconds before your eyes, such as in the Last Crusade, to spectral entities materializing in front of Nazis in Raiders of the Lost Ark, to the creation of scenes of fire sweeping through canyons, they are all what makes up a great film. Although the effects found in Indiana Jones are not as impressive as they were in its heydays, they are still original and of course pretty cool.

Environment/Setting

The Indiana Jones series features a wide variety of unique and bizarre environments. Set around the nineteen thirties to forties, Indiana Jones ventures through deserts, jungles, snowy peaks, and the city life. As he treks through these places, he always come across some sort of ancient temple or some sort of supernatural place. For example in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana finds himself in the midst of a ritual while the Ark is opened. Similarly he also comes across an ancient temple in the Last Crusade that holds the Holy Grail where he encounters booby traps and puzzle like passages, and even faces a knight guarding the grail.

Hero/Villain

As with every great series, there is a hero, and in each movie Indiana must in some way recover an ancient artifact which in some way poses danger to others, or must be recovered to save others. For example Indiana heroically recovered the Sankara stones to save the Indian village from famine and he was able to retrieve the Grail to heal his dying father. And we all know every hero needs a villain to face. Although there is no single villain, Indiana faces different foes under different circumstances. Whether it’s a sadistic cult leader in a temple of doom, or the usual Nazis Indiana always seems to be fighting.
